It hadn't occurred to me before but I just thought I'd go home and pour out a few memories which had been hanging around in my head since the day. Things like the commentators being applauded off the ground in the morning, or Tait and Langer fielding in front of me at different times, or the Spanish flags (remember all that stuff about Ashley Giles being the 'King of Spain').

I can't pretend that the writing doesn't have a bit of a nod towards Christian Ryan's style, as exhibited in the piece about Jeff Thomson in Wisden, but it actually didn't occur to me until after I wrote the piece.

I thought I'd try something a bit different. I'm glad you liked it.Brian Carpenterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10336241250446877498noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30531601.post-27305796891088254012013-09-13T03:19:03.837+01:002013-09-13T03:19:03.837+01:00I absolutely love this writing. At this distance that Ashes series really feels like a series of vignettes, and you captured those of the last day perfectly.

David

P.S. I think that is a new photo?
