Today in the Championship

It's always worth keeping an eye on the Championship. Today we had Andrew Flintoff proving that he still knows how to hold a bat (although he may have forgotten again by next week) and Martin van Jaarsveld making an unbeaten 115 to take Kent to victory over Surrey and go with his unbeaten 114 in the first innings and career-best bowling figures.

That's one Kolpak player who's definitely contributing something positive to the game in this country.

I watched Freddie's innings on Sky. The conditions were difficult early on and had it not been for some impressive umpiring he could have been given out early. It looked like he had snicked one to the keeper but snicko showed it had hit his back leg. He also gave a difficult chance to slip. He looked all at sea for the first few overs but much more settled by the end. Horton batted well with him too. He didn't take any wickets but he bowled well (by all accounts).

Thanks for that, Rob. I didn't manage to see any of the game as I was at work.

If he can build on this, stay fit and continue bowling well we may see him in the second half of the SA series, especially if England struggle at Lord's.
